Sorry for the long absence, I've been working solidly for what feels like months and am currently waiting desperately for Tuesday to hurry up and be here so I can have a day off!
We've started the task of striping the wallpaper (woodchip) in the spare room and it's uncovered some interesting things. The first is that for some reason there is only woodchip on two of the four walls, the walls have about six layers of wallpaper of varying patterns and have at some point been painted blue, thirdly the wall the window sits in had been very nicely plastered at some point, oh and fourth and most terrible is that the wall that connects to our nextdoor neighbour has a hole about an inch big which looks to have been letting water in somehow as the wall has been or still is damp, it doesn't feel wet, but certainly looks like it has been at some point. I'm in the middle of charging the camera so I can put a picture here to show you. So, this is probably going to need work isn't it?! Brilliant. We've decided we'll not bother taking the paper down in our room or the hallway, just paint over what's up as a result. But, I'm glad we've found this problem now so that if it is recent we can stop the rot so to speak.
It's His Lordship's™ parents birthdays this weekend, they'll be 60, so we're all going for a meal on Friday to celebrate. This year is the first year we won't be going to Creamfields, which is a bit disappointing, but I think we're going to need that money to get a builder in! Think it might be time to call in a favour from one of my mates who is in the trade.
Anyway, better get on with taking the rest of the paper down, we've borrowed a steamer from our painter and decorator friend which he needs back next week so we've got about another day with it. This works out well because it means we aren't on Andrew Time™. He is managing to faff over some things though.....

If it was 20 years ago Gina, I knew the finest joiner in Sheffield. he could have helped out.
Gina, don't get so worked up about the house. It will still be there long after you are dead and gone. Andrew probably has the right idea.
A little faff is good for you!
Your cousin may have been the finest joiner 20 years ago but there is no sign of it now!

He was never the finest joiner,he built those wardrobes in our front bedroom at firshill,so judge for yourself Gina, unlike his brother who is a top tradesman, unfortunately we caught him at a bad time when he did our bungalow, and all requests to honour the warranty meet with indifference, and the comment"the warranty ran out as I left your drive"
