Despite what my miserable cousin may think, I believe Obama winning this election to be one of the most monumental moments in the World's history. Listening to his victory speech brought a tear to my eye as I thought that only forty years ago (in my own parent's lifetimes) black people were denied the right to vote and were denied the right to live equally. It demonstrates how far the World has come, and especially how far America has come. I think it's a beautiful thing that when it came to it, it was the person and not the colour of someones skin that won out in the end. As for what he will achieve, he's already a change from the Bush administration and from the Republican ideal, and that in itself is enough for now. Give the guy a chance to prove himself on everything else, and if he doesn't, well, we'll cross that bridge when it comes to it.
I'll leave you with this....
"The Americans will always do the right thing, once they have exhausted all other possibilities" - Sir Winston Churchill

In four years you will be saying to yourself, "what was I thinking".
Winston Churchill was half American, which is probably why he ordered the shooting of striking miners in Tonypandy (this was a favourite ploy of Henry Ford against striking workers ),Churchill was despised in the mining communities in much the same way as Thatcher is.

I watched "The View" this morning. It's a morning talk, entertainment and news show hosted by 5 women, 2 are black (one is Whoopie Goldberg). Anyway, Whoopie and Sherry both were very emotional and felt that this monumental moment gives all black people the courage to be and do what they want as they now feel truly equal. Whoopie feels she can now put away her suitcase. I hope I get to be a part of many more monumental moments realized.
